Career Optionality ยท A five-minute self-check

The Optionality Mirror

by Coach Kim

The lane you have been running in feels smaller than the work you have actually been doing. That is not a capability problem. It is a translation problem.

Most professionals try to move titles when what they actually need to move is capabilities. That is the boxed-in pattern.

A Mirror

This is not a personality test. It is a quick read on whether the boxed-in pattern is running your operating model. Rate each statement from 1 to 5, where 1 means rarely true and 5 means almost always true.

1 = Rarely true5 = Almost always true
  1. I clearly understand the core capabilities that define my professional value.
  2. I can explain how my experience translates across multiple roles or industries.
  3. I have at least three career directions I could realistically pursue.
  4. I believe my experience is leverage, not a limit.
  5. I actively explore opportunities instead of waiting for them to appear.

The more 1s and 2s you marked, the more this pattern is running you. You do not need to score yourself further. You already know what you saw in your own answers.

Now write a single sentence below that names the lane you have been describing yourself inside, and the lane you suspect you actually belong inside.

When the print window opens, choose Save as PDF to keep a copy.

The lane narrows. The capabilities travel. The translation is the work.

That sentence you just wrote is where the translation starts. In my free live masterclass, Sell Yourself Like a Boss, I show you how to turn the career you already have into the promotion, pay and opportunities you deserve. Join the list and you'll be the first to know when it opens.
